We proudly mark our 40th anniversary by closing on more high-quality, affordable, workforce, public, and senior housing nationwide in 2023 than we ever have in our 40-year history!

While we’re proud of our growth, we know the stepping stones to get here start at our humble beginning. Since 1984, Gorman & Company has been dedicated to revitalizing neighborhoods, preserving historic landmarks, and creating sustainable spaces where people can live, work, and thrive. Our founder and affordable housing pioneer, Gary Gorman, has seen firsthand how transforming neglected properties into valuable community assets can enrich residents’ lives and strengthen neighborhoods for future generations. It’s a mission that has stood the test of time and one we hold onto in every aspect of our work.

Over the past four decades, our collaboration, expertise, and innovation around affordable housing barriers have led us to become a nationally recognized industry leader and place 7th in Affordable Housing Finance (AHF) Magazine’s Top 50 Affordable Housing Developers of 2023.

We’ve completed numerous landmark projects (see below) throughout our rich history while addressing complex and evolving critical housing needs.

By The Numbers (to date):

  • $2.9 billion in total development costs
  • 40 historic projects
  • 3 historic hotels
  • 13,264 total units built (11,301 LIHTC units)
  • 165 projects in 12 states
  • Nearly 700 employees nationwide

While we have made progress on the federal, state, and local levels, there is far more we can do to help build strong, inclusive neighborhoods.

See how our projects are making strides to fill the nation’s affordable housing needs.
