The Majestic was built in 1908 and was originally a 14-story office building and 2,000 seat theater. The box office and lobby for the theater were located in the center bay of the office building with the auditorium behind. Originally a vaudeville theater, the Majestic featured top performers including Harry Houdini, the Marx Brothers, and Jack Benny. After the opening of the new, more glamorous, Riverside Theater one block eastward in 1928, the Majestic started showing movies. In 1932, the theater was closed and turned into retail and office space.
