GARY J. GORMAN
PRESIDENT
As a native of the Madison area, Gary Gorman received an Economics degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1977, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1980. Prior to starting his own company, he practiced real estate and securities law at a Madison-based firm for four years.
In June of 1984, Gary left the law practice and started a real estate development firm. His first two projects were small historic renovation projects in Evansville, Wisconsin, utilizing a complex mix of financing. After the Tax Reform Act of 1986, which created the affordable housing tax credit in Section 42, Gary put together a series of four private placements to capitalize the equity financing for some of the first projects utilizing the affordable housing tax credit in the State of Wisconsin in 1987.
Since that time, Gorman & Company has grown to be one of the largest users of the Section 42 tax credit in Wisconsin. The company currently employs over 120 people, manages over 3,000 apartments, and producing 300 new apartments per year through its in-house general contracting division. As President and CEO, Gary has broad responsibility for all operations of the company.
Gary is married with five children. He is an active member of the Madison community, currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Business Education Partnership. His past Board involvements include the Madison Area Apartment Association and the Credit Bureau of Madison.
