Tom Capp
Chief Operating Officer
Tom Capp is the Chief Operating Officer at Gorman & Company.
As Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Capp guides Gorman & Company's Development Division and Architectural Design Division.
Mr. Capp has directed Gorman & Company's real estate development since 1995. Under his direction the company has focused on urban revitalization development. Much of Gorman & Company's development now occurs in revitalizing downtowns and challenged neighborhoods. Mr. Capp has directed the company's expansion into Arizona, Florida, and Illinois.
Mr. Capp also shepherds Gorman & Company's architectural and design efforts. He is currently guiding Gorman & Company's efforts to become known as an architectural leader in the area of design for affordable housing.
Prior to joining Gorman & Company, Mr. Capp was a Senior Associate Planner at Camiros, Inc., an urban planning firm based in Chicago, Illinois.
Mr. Capp has held a number of positions in government. He is a former Mayor of the City of Fitchburg, Wisconsin where he also served as Chair of the City's Planning Commission as well as Chair of its Economic Development Commission. Prior to joining Gorman & Company, Mr. Capp directed land use planning and development for Dane County, Wisconsin, the region that contains Madison, which is the Capital of Wisconsin.
Mr. Capp continues to be active in national and state policy discussions. He has served on many industry boards and commissions. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Housing and Rehabilitation Association. In 2007, he was appointed by the Bush White House as a Panel Expert for the Preserve America Summit, an initiative created by executive order to modernize our nation's approaches to historic preservation. He is a frequent speaker and presenter at conferences sponsored by state housing authorities, planning associations, and housing industry groups such as NCSHA, Affordable Housing Finance, NH&RA, and IPED.
Mr. Capp has a degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Illinois at Champaign.
